Heavy Equipment Operator

Heavy Equipment Operator Program at Northwest Louisiana college

The Heavy Equipment Operator program exists to pipeline qualified, well-trained equipment operators into the heavy equipment industry.  This 9-week (344 hour) training program consists of a combination of classroom, simulation, and hands-on skills training.  Students will train on a variety of equipment, including but not limited to dozers, excavators, backhoes, and skid steers. Upon successful completion of this program, students will acquire the following industry-based credentials:

  • NCCER Core
  • NCCER Heavy Equipment Level 1
  • NCCER Heavy Equipment Level 2

This training is part of the Louisiana Watershed Initiative (LWI) that will create a workforce skilled in professional resilience occupations (PRO), which are critically important in disaster recovery and mitigation efforts. The first phase of LWI’s PRO Louisiana program, which is coordinated in partnership with the Louisiana Community and Technical College System and Louisiana Economic Development, focuses on heavy equipment operator training.
